Guilds & Family Houses

Post by Admin on Tue Jan 03, 2017 7:58 am

Family Houses
Family houses are native to Lumos, each house came into exist pre calamity and have deep ties into the social structure.
____________________________________________________________________________
Shamed
The shamed are the pits of society, existing only because to send them to death wouldn't be punishment enough for their existence. All shamed once belonged to a family or house of great status, but due to one reason or another, were abandoned or enslaved. If not abandoned or enslaved, then they were a child of someone who was or had done something shameful, bastards mostly. If they had shamed parents, then they too were shamed, destined to carry on the torch for generations. A shamed has no prospects, no future. To be shamed means you can never be honorable again, you would always be filthy, dirty, unclean and impure to the eyes that crossed you. The shamed have no basic human rights. Should someone capture them as a slave, there was nothing anyone could do about it. If a shamed were killed in the street, no one would shriek, no one would feel remorse, or shock, or pity. The day would continue as if that being that is lesser than a person had never existed. That is what it means to be shamed. You do not exist until it is convenient for someone, and even then you are only partially convenient, as anything a shamed accomplished should be deemed as not worth anything.

Discord

Chimera
Founder - Unknown

Honor in conquest, and family
House Discord is a house the prides itself on unified chaos and destruction. Its honor is in the family; Doing anything that makes the house look good brings honor to an individual and this honor to Discord. Dishonor to one's self would be a dishonor to the family, thus being disowned by the family and becoming one of the Shamed, often losing all forms of rights within the house and being forced into slavery. This is of the houses oldest traditions. Discord being the only house to create slaves, they would then sell slaves to other houses, marking them with the symbol of a slave would mean they could never lead a house, but they were expected to follow the same rules of their masters within a house. If your slaves did something dishonorable, then the owner was considered dishonorable which the master would punish based on how he or she felt necessary. The slaves are often used for war, and the slave masters would sit behind, on pedestals, like royalty. Like house Meticulous they are the upper class but oppose the common morality that house Meticulous holds so high

Honor in Possession, and inheritance
The richest of the old world, those in-house Leviathan will do anything to increase their standing, with control being the ultimate goal, but to maintain control is the priority, and they have been known to step over each other for this. Hence the current founder killing the mayor. Restoring the house that was once long abandoned by the city, that had turned itself into a band of thieves, con men, and gamblers. Only the best of them could lead the house to its former glory of pressed white suits, and lavish parties that would involve taking all the wealth you had and losing it all in one night. There was Honor in inheritance, from breaking down the old, and being the new kid who went from nothing to everything in a single night, on a dare, a bet, a dice roll, a coin flip. The war this house fought was, and always is, a winning battle, because those in this house are infiltrators. They weave lies, and deceit among all other families, they take resources to power their own, the great leeches of society, and there is honor in that, honor in possession, honor among thieves.

Giant Wolf
Founder - KIA

Honor in killing, honor in death, every scar is precious

“Witness me Wolf Clan, for I am going to die a good death, with my teeth bloody and my bones broken. I will kill with honor… and die with honor” - The Pledge of Fenrir. House Pandemonium is a savage clan of carnivores and omnivores, and every so often, herbivores that have forsaken their natural diet, for the flesh of others. A house that formed quickly after the great Calamity and the fog mutation where the Great Wolf descended from the sky and devoured an entire district in the night. They find honor in the hunt and kill and eat as they feel necessary. The bigger the game, the more scars you can show from the hunt, the more honor you receive. Some mark themselves for every time they have killed, keeping a tally to represent their honor so all may see it. They call them Stains, which they can then offer in a blood pact to others in the Wolf Clan in exchange for eternal loyalty and devotion, forming a pact of sorts. There is, however, another kind of honor; particularly that goes to the herbivores that put up a fight before being killed by the wolf clan. The challenge of a good death is what binds the clan together. Being able to defend oneself is to bring honor, running away is never acceptable. It's always kill or be killed and if you are defeated but not killed then your meat is not worthy of the hunt, the most dishonorable means of existence possible within the wolf clan. It is through this logic that some great pack leaders have been herbivores, killing and feeding their kills to the pack that they offered stains too. A rabbit, leading a pack of foxes is what many call it.

Draconian

Dragon
Founder - KIA

French Victorian form of Honor - status

“Fear, not Lions, Tigers, Bears, or Wolves for we are dragons.  We do not fear for we are feared”  The house Draconian is a house of noble and moral strength, full of Aureates and Praetorians, where manners are more important than one's life. In fact not having them would often cost your life. It is here where the high, yet not so smart, of noble blood earn their place in society. Armor fitted by the wealthiest in high society, and training and cunning under the warlords of olden days have hardened them to be not only great leaders but perfect killers in one on one combat with any foe. They are mercenaries hidden away from the world by their families, hidden gems made of perfectly cut diamond, cut by their fathers and mothers wealth so that they could do one thing, crush the enemies of their parents, and expand the wealth of their families through marriage. Politics could never matter; that is until the mayor put forth this house, asking for the brave and vigorous to come out of hiding to fulfill a greater purpose. Thus the diamonds…. No… the dragons were born. “Hic sunt dracones… here there be dragons… here there be fire… here there be the bringers of order, and should you not accept their order, then a swift death would surely come after.

Roar - “hic sunt dracones” - here there be dragons

Honor in the Brotherhood, Honor is overcoming challenges, Honor in Wit

“Wear your scars proudly my brothers, for only we, the peerless scarred, can be trusted, for a future without scars, and a future without scars is one where we are eternal” The designers of a war tactic known as a Red Rain. House Havoc is one of militaristic warfare and strategy, employing those tested day in and day out, in countless trials and battles. While the key is being a master of war, and a master of staying alive in any situation, everyone in house Davoc is different, some scrawny, some muscular, some stay completely clothed revealing only their eyes, while others only use small cloths to hide themselves. The only thing they all share is one scar across their face, a sign to show that they are truly the most gifted in-house Havoc, proven masters of Warcraft. Each of them holds their peculiarity in high standard and each person takes a shadow, a young lad or lass who will learn their art, and train the next person for generations to come. Within house Havoc names are taken away from you and instead you are given the name of your art, when shadow becomes master and a new shadow is taken, the old master must be killed by the pupil in order to no longer be just a shadow. It is House Havoc's rule of two, and has existed since before the Calamity.

Master Order
Suave of Honor- Fashion
“This is a blood feud” A gentlemanly gesture made by someone who has had their honor tarnished. Something ingrained at a young age to the future politicians, businesspeople, and Chief Executive Officers of big companies. They are taught to stay humble, look clean, dress nicely, and everything they want will be handed to them on plates of gold and platinum so long as they keep their wits about them and craft wonders of elegance and true beauty. Many in-house Meticulous go to school, get a good education, land a career in making things better than what they already are in their personal view. You give them a sword, they use it, enjoy it until it gets old and decides it is no longer worth their time, but they long for the newness of the sword, so they get many swords, a machine that crafts swords, an unlimited source of swords. Then they refine the work, a collection grows and then they have industry, wealth, status in the eyes of the Sovereign, the Arch Governor, and all of your peers. “Look at all of these swords, my good man… are you envious?” Those who claimed to be envious would be mocked, their honor tarnished by the accomplishments of another.  However, those who claimed not to care, who claimed to have better collections, more worth, and honor that could not be tarnished by such a simple collection of swords would be challenged. “This is a blood feud. Should you or I ever meet again, stand in the same room, breath the same air, one of us will die, and the other shall walk free a new man.” In the end, someone dies over a collection of swords, a petty comment about someone’s craft. The deceased’s collection of swords is melted down, handed out, sold, to another youth who stays humble, looks clean, dresses nicely, and everything he or she wants… is given to them… on the melted down swords, blood, sweat, and tears of a man who thought manners made him.

Mutiny
Honor in Loyalty your masters and to your slaves

A new house that formed itself thanks to the will of one man and the lack of will from many others. House Mutiny prides itself on serving whoever conquers and protects it. It is for this reason that anyone who willingly joins this house has no hopes of ever ruling over it. Instead they wait for their current leader to be killed or defeated, and pledge their allegiance to the one who now proved him or herself the strongest. The weak favor the strong, and fortune favors the bold. Due to the nature of those in-house Mutiny wanting simple protection from the dangers outside, a majority of the members have found peace within the bridge on the safest level. No one bothers those of house Mutiny, and many see the members as middlemen between the other houses at war. Only the leader of House Mutiny has ever been a target, if not by other houses, then by those within house Mutiny who have found that their leader has betrayed their trust and promise of power and destroyed their peace. Time and time again has house Mutiny eaten its own leaders for abusing their daughters, and mindlessly killing its sons. While it may seem simple to promise good leadership, trusting others has been the downfall of many leaders. While taking house Mutiny gives you ultimate power, that ultimate power is only as good as you are a leader to house Mutiny. If you abuse it, it will consume you… literally….

Honor found in life

Honour lies in life itself, and life is eternal, thus honor, too, is eternal. To deny the existence of another is to renounce honor and to deny life itself. And while there is life, there is hope, but once you deny life, there can be no hope for salvation.  House eternity values freedom and demands that all individuals be recognized. They refuse to accept the practice of casting people out, making them Shamed.  As a new house and, more importantly, one that welcomes, recognizes and fights for the Shamed, many refuse to acknowledge their existence.  They vow to vindicate all Shamed. Should it take Eternity to do so, they will become Eternity.
